Place Finder, Explorer & Navigation App

What is the Sunu Band Place Finder App

The Place Finder app is a wayfinding tool that allows you to explore and access various places that are within your vicinity. You’ll be able to explore various categories of places with this app and what is nearby. These include:

  • Subway Station (metro stations).
  • Restaurant (restaurants).
  • Store (stores).
  • Laundry (laundries).
  • Hospital (hospitals).
  • Shopping Mall (shopping centers).
  • Bank (banks).
  • Drug store (pharmacies).
  • Train station (train stations).
  • Coffee (coffee shops).
  • ATM (ATM).

Place Finder allows you to select from the Sunu Band different categories of places that are around you and receive guided, real time, directions to reach the desired location. Guidance is offered through voice via your mobile device. The advantage of this new function compared to other GPS applications, is that we can explore our environment using the Sunu Band, knowing precisely in which direction the different places are within our surroundings and where they are located. The combination of voice prompts and vibro-feedback provide real-time directions that tell you which direction to walk,

Before Using Place Finder

Please make sure that you have the following ready before using the Place Finder:

  1. Make sure that you’ve calibrated the Sunu Band, as explained above.
  2. Turn ON Sunu Voice Services.
  3. Make sure that GPS location is activated on your mobile phone.
  4. Allow permission for Sunu App to access the location at all times.

The reason for this is that we usually carry the phone locked and stored in a pocket while listening to the navigation instructions through a headset. If we give localization permits only when the application is in use, when the screen is turned off, we can no longer perform the exploration of the elements that are around us with the Place Finder.

Opening the Place Finder

Double-click on the HOME button on the Sunu Band to open the menu. Next, swipe on the touchpad to select Place Finder app. Then double-tap on the touchpad to enter into the Place Finder.

You can also open Place Finder directly from the Sunu Band by double-clicking on the Navigate button.

Once Place Finder is active, Sunu Voice will begin promoting the available categories. Swipe on the touchpad to switch between these categories. By default, the Place Finder locates places that around your within a 200 meter range. Sunu Voice with prompt you whether or not a place is found within a given category.

The Sunu App allows you can configure the range that you want to explore. The range can be increased up to one kilometer. You may use the adjustable selector to modify the range by flicking your finger up or down to move the selector in increment of 100 meters. You may also double-tap and hold to gain more precision on the selector while sliding your finger up or down to make a more precise graduation in units of distance.

Navigating with Place Finder

Remember to swipe on the touchpad to explore and switch between categories. When going through each of the categories, if there is no places within category are located within the proximity radio that we have configured in the application, it will tell us that there is no place available in that category. However, if places of found within a given category, then the first available place will be prompted. You may now explore the environment by extending your arm, similar to how the compass is used to hear what is nearby. You may also toggle between nearby places by swiping on the touchpad.

You may get navigation directions to a place of interest. Double-tap on the touch to begin navigation to the selected place of interest. You will immediately be asked to confirm the place by double-tapping on the touchpad. To exit out of navigation, press-and-hold on the touchpad. This will return you back to the exploration mode, where you may continue switching between available nearby places.

When navigation directions start, Sunu Voice will first provide a description or a “step by step” of the path we must follow. Raise you forearm, in the same way you use the compass. You’ll feel a constant vibration to indicate that path to follow.

With direction information in hand, we can also lower the forearm to the side of the body to automatically go to ultrasound scanning mode and start walking using simultaneously navigation and sonar. This feature will be available for premium members.

During the tour, you will be guided verbally through the streets you must go. Of course, this is heard through our smartphone, so the ideal thing is to wear headphones (preferably bone conduction so that our ears are free and we can hear the verbal instructions without losing detail of other sounds that can help us orientation).

Raise your forearm again to know to know in which direction to continue heading. Sunu Band will vibrate continuously in the direction in which we have to keep walking. It is important to recognize and be aware that it does not vibrate in a straight line towards the direction in which we are going, but in the direction we have to take through the different streets to reach that place. THe difference between navigation and exploration mode is that when we explore the places that are around us, the bracelet tells us the direction in which this element is located in a straight line, without taking into account the path we have to follow. In navigation mode, It then indicates directions taking into account the streets that we have to walk in order to reach our destination.

Exit & Closing Place Finder

When you’ve arrive at your destination or place of interest, you may exit out of Place Finder by pressing the HOME button.
